This week, the first leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. This match promises a lot, with Tottenham having played exceptionally well in Europe this year, having knocked the 7 time European Champions AC Milan in the previous round. They were defensively strong, and their major strength lies in their flank play, with Lennon and Bale using their pace and providing crosses for the likes of Crouch and Defoe. Injury scares to Gallas and Bale have been the main talks in the build up to this match, if they don’t play, the Lilywhites would have to work really hard. Football fans should hope for Bale to play, as we do not want to miss out on Bale vs Ramos, or Bale vs Marcelo, do we? With Harry Redknapp’s declaration ahead of the match that Bale is fit to play, the prospects have started to brighten for Spurs. At the weekend, the Lilywhites suffered a dull draw against a spirited Wigan side, and they would want to get back to winning ways.

And so would Real Madrid, having been beaten at home by Sporting Gijon, a very disappointing result for the Los Blancos. Mourinho would want to see this as a minor glitch, and would want to move on and get wins as quickly as possible. The Madrid defence looks a bit weak, and the likes of Carvalho and Pepe would have to show their class. Their midfield, especially their flanks with Ronaldo and Di Maria having done a great job this season. Ronaldo’s injury worry is the biggest problem for Madrid, and we all know what impact he has when he plays. It will be a battle of the wings, and a great match to watch. Spurs, to win, need to slow the game down a bit, and play to their strengths
